Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th February enclosing a copy of a despatch addressed to you by the utuh of Yunnan complaining of the interference of the Canton Coverment in the affaire of the Honkong Branch of the Fu Tien Bank and in reply to inform you that though it is true that the Deputy Superintendent of Police visited the Tank on the 20th January to make some enquiries of the anager, who he found absent and that he read some letters found on the premises the books of the firm were not examined and

nothing was removed and no telegraphix were intercepted.
Moreover no member of the Hongkong Police has at any time visited the Bank with any representative of the Kuang-
tung fovernment.
I have already addressed you on the subject of the centoring of telegrams from and to Yun an referred to in the 2nd paragraph of your letter under acknowledgment.
